For Vladimir Putin this is uncharted(未知的) territory(領域). He's grown used to being Russia's most popular and powerful politician - completely in control(完全控制). But his political party has stuttered(結巴) at the polls(投票).
United Russia will remain the largest single party in the new parliament but it will have fewer seats. Its share of the vote has dropped from 64% to around 50%. And that amid(在…之中) widespread allegations(廣泛指控) of vote rigging(操縱) in favour of the ruling party(執政黨).
That will come as an embarrassment(困窘,困難) to Mr Putin, just three months before he runs again for Russian president. He's almost certain(一定) to win the presidential election next March.
But the parliamentary(議會) poll(投票) reflects(反應) a growing fatigue(疲勞) with a leader who has dominated(主宰) the Russian political stage(政治舞台) for more than a decade.
